●會錯意Talk To You Later
初至美國工作，每天應付英語無不戰戰兢兢， 但仍然生澀的我，還是常有「漏接」或「誤傳」的時候。
記得那天也是個忙碌的上班日子，正在執行一項跨組新企劃案的我， 依常例到組上會議室找我的頂頭上Susan，將工作進程報告一番。
當談話結束正要鬆一口氣時，Susan最後起身點頭微笑丟給我一句： 「Talk to you later!」便逕行離開，許久都沒有再回來。
我獨自留在會議室許久許久，直到同事 Kate路過問我在幹嘛， 我楞頭楞腦地答道： 「Susan 說有事要跟我講，……她告訴我『Talk to you later』……」
Kate一聽大笑不已：「天才，妳還在這等啊！她的意思是『再見』啦！」
原來 Talk to you later並非等一下有事同你說， 而是跟 See you later 一樣，是道再見的意思啊！
●眼霜！冰淇淋！
多年前出國旅遊時，聽說國外的化妝品較便宜， 也隨著團員去百貨公司血拚，心想帶瓶眼霜給老媽，應該是不錯的選擇，
於是對售貨員說：「我想買一瓶眼霜(eye's cream)」
售貨員聽後一愣，然後說： 「冰淇淋(ice cream) 要去 supermarket買，我們只有 eye cream。」
原來眼霜是 eyecream， 不是我所想眼睛使用的面霜(eye's cream)。
頓時恨不得地上有洞鑽進去。
●What's Eating You?
在學校吃午飯時，大家坐一起， 因為上一堂課的 Test 很不理想，所以不是很高興。
好友 Helga問：「What's eating you?」 我還沒弄明白，就回答：「I am just eating some potato chips。」
大家大笑，她們後來告訴我這句話是問「你怎麼樣了」。 原來如此啊！又鬧出笑話了。
●Play by Ear
學期末教授要求我們作一個小組報告， 我和幾名小組成員拿不準教授會出什麼樣的刁難問題而發愁，
最後同學們說： 「Why don't we play by ear？」(我們為什麼不動」耳朵呢？）
我覺得莫名其妙，反問大家： 「我只聽說過動腦筋才能想出辦法，動耳朵能管用嗎？」
大家聽完我的話，笑得前仰後合，等他們好不容易喘過氣來， 才告訴我「Play by ear」的意思是「到時見機行事」。
